If I were to buy a $$$ bag anytime soon - trust me I already have it figured out it would be a *vintage* Balenciaga motorcycle bag (my only option is vintage at this point!). There’s not a ton of high end bags that I usually obsess over - lately they’ve been so over-embellished and trendy, the offerings are always the same. I like to focus my efforts on the outfit itself - and so love being able to throw the same bag with a multitude of looks over and over again. All I really want is beautiful leather, unique hardware, and forward styling. I am so sick of the YSL Muse and Marc by Marc trickle down, which is why Mulberry is so refreshing. The label doesn’t scream IT bag, or the question “is it or is it not fake?” - they’re just classic, gorgeous bags.

Yes! So this is what gives UT the reputation it has. The exhibit, “Fritz Henle: In Search of Beauty” will be shown at the University of Texas Harry Ransom center starting February 3rd. Henle was an esteemed photographer from the 30’s to the 90’s , and specifically fashion for the likes of Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, and Glamour.
Roy Flukinger, curator of the exhibition at the Ransom Center, said, “Henle remained the champion of what he defined as ‘beauty’ in photography and, regardless of the subject matter he encountered, always strove to find an aesthetically pleasing approach to what came before his camera.”

Just got around to checking photos/dresses of the SAG Awards - and I’m left thinking, “huh?” I pained myself to choose three best dressed, but the only celeb that looked stunning was Kate Winslet.
Thoughts??

Apparently Balmain is back. I’m not much for disregarding design houses - especially those French in origin and with Edith Head-esque credentials (Balmain did a lot of Hollywood costume design), so the vicious fashion cycle strikes again. But - Balmain comes out on top with new design head Christophe Decarnin (formerly of Paco Rabanne), who is leading the the label in staging a movement towards an edgy, sultry and complicated boho genre - very far off from the original Pierre Balmain’s uncluttered and pure styling.
Although I’d love to see a bit more of Pierre in these shoes - I won’t lie, I’m definitely more cluttered than uncluttered, and I love a heavy metal shoe that I can wear with everything. I kind of think Balmain is the alternative answer to the somewhat retro and polished showings on the runways recently, more specifically the Balenciaga Fall 08 that we never had this year! Although Christophe is going against the grain with the house’s aesthetic, he’s doing what’s best for the label in the end - a fresh, young, and Bergdorf Goodman worthy collection to bring the name out of couture and into closets.

Brooklyn is all over the place recently!
In stores this March - NY Post article “Brooklyn ‘Nose’ Best”
This belt is so easy to pull off - and so cheap! Everyone is already of the mentality of cinching their waist, so this is the perfect compliment to what’s already in your closet. If you really want to try to embody the look, pick up some paper bag pants and wear it with a pair of flesh colored heels and a structured, but bare top. I’m placing an order tonight for the Alexander Wang twinsies from the post “Twinsies - Alexander Wang Cropped Trousers” - and because I’m a complete pack rat, I already have a bow belt stashed in my belt drawer (nutso, I know - ask my beau he has no space for clothes). I didn’t think I would fall so hard for this menswear bottom movement, and to some it might be a hard look to achieve - but the girly & fun vibe of the bow belt help to balance the dichotomy and keep it real.

Just picked up these adorable satin, gingham wedges from Payless - for $38 bones! I’ve been in a little rut when it comes to Payless outside of New York. I sometimes wonder if people are even aware of how fantastic it is - and if the buyers out in Topeka, Kansas (yes I’m serious) would plan an assortment correctly for a city outside of NY - we might all spend a lot more money there. Here in Austin, there are about 5 Payless’, only 1 of which carries the designer collections - so when I was reading up on the new styles that were in the 34th street store in Manhattan, it was about 4:55 and I bounded out of the office on my way to pick up some serious spring shoes. Unfortunately, they had about 1/3 of what I was expecting, but I did manage to snag the Lela Rose wedges above - they had such a distinct 40’s feel to them, very romantic - like the Notebook! So, my beef with this story is that Payless needs to realize that Austin is not West Texas and give us a better assortment. There are fashion forward girls outside of NYC and perhaps they’d know that if they weren’t based in Kansas.
