Valentine’s day is kind of like New Years - overrated! Every Valentine’s in New York was bitter, bitter cold - one year I even had to trudge through 2 feet of snow in a pair of enormous Lanvin-esque platforms to find a cab. Behind every cynic there’s a disappointed idealist, I’ll admit - sure, I’d love to be whisked away to the Maldives, but those things only happen if you’re dating a 50 year old hedge fund something or other. Fortunately or unfortunately, the jury is still out - I prefer 28 year olds. It also seems I prefer 28 year olds with no income (also called business school), so why not do he and I a favor and go for Naughty Secretary Club over Tiffany this year? That’s LOVE!
And, I am a complete sucker for things like this: “What movie kiss are you?” from Quizfarm.com. I scored Mary Jane from Spiderman!

The Lucky guide books are a perfect gift for ANY girl. For those with no clue about fashion, it’s great because it essentially teaches you how to style yourself, what pieces do what for an outfit, what you need to complete a look, everything and anything under the sun. This is definitely for the person that always compliments you on your outfit, but is too scared to try it herself. It’s also great for those skilled in the art of dressing well – as the update to the original Lucky guide (Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style) is centered around personal style. If you’re boho, classic, girly, whatever – it’s like training wheels to clean up your look, try something new, or completely reinvent yourself.

Givenchy is one of my favorite design houses, and it all started with how beautifully the name rolls off the tongue - when said right. I hate the Hills - I know probably everyone reading this loves it - but Whitney and Lauren had no idea how to say Givenchy while in Paris - it was so disappointing. Regardless of the meritocracy that is not fashion, I love this little pocket watch of glow because you can give a posh little gift that is so feminine and lux - for $55. The actual compact is an all over highlighter - so, basically a powder that gives you a glowing complexion. I find that bronzer looks so strange in the winter, not so much in Texas now that it’s 70 in December - but in the NE I always felt as though I looked a little Hollywood Tans - and so a sheer highlighter made me feel more like a natural snow bunny. It’s also the perfect companion when going from day to night - if you need a little boost you don’t always need to break out the arsenal - this will do the trick and doubles as a chic little accessory.

One of the things I hate most about holiday editorial, is the holiday gift guides that have one or two pages devoted to those under $50, and like seven to under $500 (i.e. Elle, which I just can’t relate to – strictly inspiration end use). Beyond that – when they do feature said under $50 gifts, it’s always a tea light holder, lip balm, or coasters. When I buy gifts, pretty much everything falls under that $50 bracket, and how on earth can I give my mom a set of coasters and call it a day? So, for this holiday season this commentary will be devoted to gifts worth giving – that are creative and fun and meaningful – on a working girl’s budget.
