Bow headbands are nothing new to Gossip Girl, but I especially loved this oversized, floppy top-of-head version seen on Blair in “Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?”, aka Bart Bass’ funeral episode. It’s very Polyanna, very Little Princess - and definitely a statement piece. I’ve discovered when searching for brand new trends or just weird vintage, i.e. jodhpurs, racers - that most search engines don’t recognize - Etsy is a great resource. Etsy is all handmade and often times custom. The exaggerated red bow below is made to order, so you can have your own little couture headband in any color of the rainbow for only $20 (ish). On the flip side, I was even surprised to see the Jennifer Ouellette headband as only $50 - as I have spent many an afternoon drooling over hair accessories at Barney’s, so the must see costumes on gossip girl have definitely created a saturated bow market - and thank god!

Once again, can’t get enough of Blair’s pretty little Upper East side princess style. I often fight with my best friend about which one of us is Blair and which is Serena. It’s like Mary and Rhoda circa Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion. You would think somebody would want to be the blonde bombshell - but nope, we both argue why we’re more like Blair. Luckily I won by default - I lived on the Upper East! Beyond the gorgeous ruffles, dainty bows, and prim styling - I think she just has the best writer.

Let’s ignore the fact that the hemline on this dress needs about 3 inches – and concentrate on the rich color story. As Thanksgiving is only a day away, a lot of us are starting to plan our feasting outfits. I plan on scouring my closet for anything cranberry or squash colored, inspired by who other than Gossip Girl. Seriously though, autumnal colors like berry, rust, and evergreen are perfect for not only this time of year, but as an excuse to exercise your closet for the family. I remember when I was at V, I went home for the holidays and my mom said “Jennifer, you look like you’re right out of a magazine” – my mom is a lovable crazy, and so I say - well mom, I do spend most of my time at a magazine. She still has no idea what I do. As family dynamics seem to get more crazy as you get older – here’s to filling up your glass of wine and looking good while doing it.

Leighton Meester (of Gossip Girl) has great style on and off the show, both credited to two very talented stylists, Eric Daman for work and Rachel Zoe for play. There are tons of snarky comments floating around the media about Rachel Zoe, but that’s because people love to hate! She obviously knows what’s going on - Leighton always looks fabulous, and that pink dress - I could die!

It’s so easy to get carried away in a sea of black during the winter, and I love black - but there’s gotta be something to break up the monochromatic monotony - and why not pretty hot pinks? If you’re afraid the color is too daring, too much - I like to think I’d rather stick out like a fashionable sore thumb than blend in!

If I were a rich girl…I’d own this 3.1 Philip Lim dress too.

Some UES sleeve interest - or lack thereof. What’s so gorgeous about this dress is the draping & ruching. What’s so great about the contemporary market is that jersey is cheap, and jersey drapes beautifully. What you pick up at American Apparel has very little material difference against Philip Lim - and what difference in treatment it does have, probably costs 5 cents. It is ALL about margin, girls. Gabrielle Chanel was actually a jersey maverick - and began using it in 1916 for women’s suits. Chanel was also living at poverty level for most of her youth - so she definitely would have been scoping out the below. Are you picking up what I’m putting out?

Blair Waldorf is to my adult life what Cher Horowitz was to my tween years. Case in point, the White Party.

In GG world, this is a Marc Jacobs dress & Jennifer Behr headband. I once knew a girl at V who had the J. Behr Prada turban equivalent. For a minute I thought Omg I need it I want it I have to have it - $100 dollars later I realized I was not the intern with a private jet. That being said - see the always more interesting, Blair-worthy, alternatives below. XOXO.

All of my fabulous five readers out there will have to forgive the fact that I’m starting this GG fashion commentary a tad bit late, but I am transitioning from NYC to ATX to say the least! To make it up, to all five of you, see below article from NY Mag.
