Outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana

My view from lunch at the Oasis, happy MLK!

Just in from Christmas in New Orleans - and as the brief blogging hiatus should suggest - I was enjoying myself way too much to get in front of the computer. My beau grew up in NOLA, in the area uptown called the Garden District - which up until now was always hard for me to identify with as his house is from the 1800’s, the lifestyle is all about celebrating (socializing marathons), and the formalities (balls) are from another time entirely. It’s such a shame that more people don’t know how beautiful and cultural it is in comparison to basically every other city in this country, and it should be preserved and nurtured way more than the Bush administration could comprehend. I could talk ex-pat for hours - but the pictures really speak for themselves - and I’ll be counting down the days until I’m back again for Mardi Gras!

Just a regular day messing around with google images.  Those earrings, that drink - the tragic yet glamorous original “IT” girl Edie Sedgwick, the reason why sailor stripes dominate my closet.

Home for Thanksgiving, at the Manatawny Creek Winery in PA with the family.

I felt like I was in Paris! I wore this fabulous black beret unknowingly, but it worked out perfectly with the aesthetic. The whole week my girls had been planning an emo adventure (I say emo lightly, we’re just mild hipsters) - so this lounge was sooo built up in my head, yet met every expectation. I can’t recommend it enough - the teal paint, deco chandeliers, and quilted chairs, REALLY just plain and simple blew you away.

A common problem with my taste is hunting day and night for a piece, and then a month or two later stumbling upon it when I’m already over it. I was searching like hell for black sequin hot shorts for Halloween (Chanel Sailor). Patricia Field was the only viable option for $80, and I just wasn’t willing to invest that - I mean it’s clearly not a basic or classic! So, cruising through TopShop.com on a regular Tuesday night - what do I see but those god forsaken hot pants, in red no doubt - just as cute as black for my sailor costume! Regardless, I’m happy with the pair I wore (homemade), because those babies are S-H-O-R-T, but it just kills me - I’m always too early!

As this off tangent dialogue suggests - this image struck a chord - I love the harlequin hot shorts (all hot shorts) and that FUR (faux). I wish you could run around in things like this on a regular basis - we are in the WRONG decade for innovative fashion!
