As I was stuck traveling most of the day yesterday, I was able to stick my nose even further into the depths of the IPhone by shopping online until my battery reached 10% - died - and then went onto using the beau’s to stave off boredom. While doing so - I sadly came upon the leftovers of a sale Saks was holding online, featuring the Tory Burch Reva ballet flats for only $58 - that’s a little over 75% off!
The rude awakening that is missing a sale then hit me when I read the little red letters “out of stock”. Mild silent freak out ensues - but because I was so P.O.’d about missing out on this, I’ve gone hunting and found a pretty decent deal at Neiman Marcus - $94 a pair for the usual $195, and in an array of colors not yet picked over.
I’m really not much of a flat girl, or one for obvious labels - but when I saw how dirt cheap they were I thought for a split second, hey - if I was going to get a pair of flats I may as well get a pair that could very well be a novelty in a few years. I like to think of my closet kind of like a museum - and what would any 20 something museum be without this flat? Beyond that, you won’t blend in with the crowd of the early adopters as long as you stay out of the country club and stay in colors like fuchsia or tangerine. If there’s going to be a huge gold emblem on your toes - it may as well be countered with a vivid shade - that South of France mixed with a bit of East Hampton that Tory Burch is all about.

As a die hard bow addict, I’m on France Luxe’s mailing list and so receive their catalogs (which even if it is a dying business - I really do love getting). France Luxe is a small ecomm/direct luxury hair accessories business based in Washington, which I discovered through late night desperation googling for a bow headband last year (see post: Feeling Girly? Take a Bow). The great thing about luxury anything is that when you are on top of a trend that is hard to find - pretty much the only way to find it will be in its original form and usually not so cheap. At the time I was absolutely willing to shell out $50 for a headband, but then of course got angry when 6 months later there were 5 different versions at H&M. Such is the life of a trend in a modern fast fashion world. And - as I’m on a little punk spree at the moment, flipping through the catalog the studded tortoise shell headbands jumped off the page, I got a little excited, and then looked at the price and my heart sank! So, as always - Forever 21 to the rescue.
If you have more than $10 in your checking account, shop France Luxe

Definitely for the daring at heart. I know I can’t resist any pyramid stud, no matter what the capacity. These are very specific - but for that price it’s completely reasonable to have but not wear all the time. Sometimes I buy pieces I don’t wear for years - I just know that I need to have them and there will a perfect time for them in the future. And, if anything, these shoes are definitely futuristic.

Thanks to a tip from a reader (thanks Julie!), run and pick up this weekend’s Austin Chronicle for a 40% off coupon at Strut. As you know, they hold their 40% off first Thursdays at the beginning of each month – so if you missed December’s, you are in luck!
I can fully vouch that this is a great deal. I went to the first Thursday and was able to buy 2 party dresses (orig $60 ea), a dress top (orig $70), a bracelet & earrings (orig $12ish ea) for a little over $100.
FYI – it expires Thursday, the 18th

Spotted the Jessica Simpson heels in Missbehave mag last month (see post: If Looks Could Kill - So Can Your Heels), and couldn’t get enough of that heel - so bad ass, so not Jessica Simpson. I loved it though - it reminded me of the shoe Nine West has been pimping out to all editorial this past fall, so it was refreshing to see another utilitarian ankle bootie on the landscape. It had been a while since I last scoped out Go Jane - when I spotted another twinsie - it’s so easy sometimes it baffles me. Although I’m not really a fan of the PVC on the Go Jane shoe - it’s important to be aware that not all shoes need cost $80 and up - markup is a sneaky thing in retail and it’s all about business. In the end - I really hope this heel is translated into other shoes across the market from here on out - to me it is very Galliano, and where has he been?!

Revolve is a fairly new site for me - I’ve always known about it, but never really invested in it until looking at the sale section with this current climate. Revolve is very comparable to Shop Bop - it’s your Intermix when you don’t live in a city with Intermix - carrying every contemporary designer under the sun. What I like a little bit more than Shop Bop, however, is they carry a wider price point range - starting around $100 rather than what seems a sea of $250+ on the Bop. There are also designers featured I’ve never heard of - which I crave - so you not only become ahead of the class in terms of street cred, you’re also wearing pieces nobody else will be (you can’t say the same for Marc by Marc or Dolce Vita). And, once they’re on sale - there’s no telling how far you’ll go.

For those of you who don’t know what Shop Bop is - get there ASAP! Shop Bop is a contemporary online retailer that is never lacking in noteworthy sales or noteworthy designers. In the beginning of the season, I like to use the site as inspiration - at the end of the season, I scope out the sales (I can only ever go for 70% off) - and I find some insane form of justification in buying a cotton dress for more than $50 (which I KNOW is all it could possibly cost at wholesale). What’s lovely about Shop Bop is that they carry designers you really only find at the best of Saks - if that (Rogan, Rag & Bone, Elizabeth & James). Here in Austin we have been graced with the presence of American materialism that is the Domain (an upscale shopping center) - where there’s a Barney’s Co Op and Intermix, but others aren’t so lucky - so ecommerce and the likes of Shop Bop are heaven sent. It definitely took me leaving New York to realize that the fantastic flagships we had in the city don’t exist anywhere else - and if I had the resources, I would have bought out every last one. Such is life!
